The Earth This spectacular “blue marble” composite image is the most detailed true-color image of the entire Earth to date. Using a collection of satellite-based observations, scientists and visualizers stitched together months of observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a seamless, true-color mosaic of every square kilometer (.386 square mile) of our planet. A truly stunning image of the earth - thank you NASA!.
The information to create this composite photographic image of the earth mostly came from a single remote-sensing device - NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS. MODIS is onboard the Terra satellite and provides an integrated tool for observing terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric features of the Earth. Land and coastal ocean images based on surface observations are also included in the earth image and are combined, or composited, every eight days to compensate for clouds that might block the sensor’s view of the surface of the earth on any single day. Earth SoftwareHome Planet - Home Planet - Home Planet is a Microsoft Windows 3.1, 95, and NT application which puts a somewhat different spin on the usual astronomical or planetarium program. Home Planet places the Earth in its place in the universe, allowing one to look up toward the stars or down upon the Earth from a variety of perspectives. Comprehensive documentation is included in a hypertext help file. For additional information and instructions on how to download and install the software, please see the online documentation. New high resolution (8192×4096) natural colour cloudless Earth image upgrade now available. Home Planet, a comprehensive Earth and sky simulator for Windows which displays the Earth, tracks satellites, asteroids, and comets, includes an extensible multimedia object catalogue, a simulated telescope for viewing the sky at any magnification or location, a database of more than a quarter million stars, and a complete hypertext help file and introduction to astronomy linked to the components of the program. Displays include the illuminated portion of the Earth, the Sky, the Telescope, the Earth as viewed from a satellite, the Moon, or the Sun, an orrery, panels displaying current information about the Moon and planets, and more. Real-time astronomical information can be exported to other applications via DDE. There's even a cuckoo clock (you can turn it off). Astronomy Software from Astrod xearth for Windows - xearth for Windows - Xearth for Windows is a port of Kirk Johnson's original xearth program to Microsoft Windows. Xearth renders a shaded image of the earth on your desktop, as seen from your favorite vantage point in space. By default, the image is updated every five minutes according to the current position of the sun. Xearth for Windows works with any 32-bit version of Windows, including 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP.
