The Moon
A photographic image of the face of the moon as seen from earth. Astrod Astronomy Freeware MoonCalc Moon Calculator - MoonCalc Moon Calculator - Moon Calculator (MoonCalc) is a DOS program which provides information relating to the position, age, phase, orientation, appearance and visibility of the moon for any given date, time and location on earth. It also provides the Julian Day Number, Magnetic Declination, time and direction of moonrise and moonset, interval between sunset and moonset, interval between sunrise and moonrise, date/time of astronomical new moon (conjunction), full moon, apogee and perigee and predicts the likelihood of visualising the young moon from a particular location. Data pertaining to solar and lunar eclipses in any year are also shown. MoonCalc provides Hijri calendar data including location dependent Hijri date conversion using predicted crescent visibility. Automatic local and regional (tri-zonal) Hijri calendar tabulation is possible. The program can scan the globe at the start of any lunar month to find the location, date/time and circumstances of earliest crescent sighting using a variety of ancient and modern moon sighting criteria. The program is able to draw world maps (flat and spherical projections) showing areas of the globe where the young moon is likely to be seen. Graphical displays showing the position of the moon on a star chart and the position of the moon in a simulated local sky (horizon view or traditional circular sky-chart view) can be produced and printed out. A close-up of the near side of the moon (showing orientation of the moon's limbs and position of the lunar craters), correct for a given observation site, is also provided. This close up takes into account the effect of libration and 'limb shortening' (optional). A graph of lunar libration for an entire month can be plotted. There is a choice of either topocentric/geocentric co-ordinates and apparent/geometric sunset. Correction for atmospheric refraction is optional. The program has a built in atlas database which stores latitude and longitude data of upto 1000 cities (ships with over 100 cities already entered). There are many user-configurable features. Astrod Astronomy Freeware LOW, Lunar Occultation Workbench and Moonview - LOW, Lunar Occultation Workbench and Moonview - This freeware is from the Dutch Occultation Society. Version 3.1 of the Lunar Occultation Workbench ( LOW ) is now available: LOW is a freeware program and it now comes in two editions: Lite and Professional. For novices to the field of occultations of stars and planets by the moon, the Lite edition is recommended. The Professional edition does everything that the Lite edition can do and more: it includes over 476.000 stars of the Guide Star Catalog 1.1 ( GSC ) which lie in the Zodiacal zone. Moonview: Moon View 3.0 allows you to view the Moon and a celestial object, as it will appear from your location. Simply enter the date, time, your position and the position angle at which the star or planet is occulted, and Moon View will render an image of the phenomenon. Moon View takes the Moon's librations into account and can also display the eclipse phase during a lunar eclipse. Astrod Astronomy Freeware Virtual Moon Atlas (VMF) - Virtual Moon Atlas (VMF) - Virtual Moon Atlas (VMF) is free software for Moon observation or survey. Compatible with Windows 95 / 98 / NT / / ME / 2000 / XP / Vista. Great moon maps and photographs allow visualisation and exploration of the moon. The main pictures libraries of Virtual Moon Atlasd (About 3000 pictures): "Lunar Orbiter Photographic Atlas of the Moon" (1040 pictures) - "NASA Apollo missions" (440 pictures) - "NASA" Apollo Mapping Cameras (680 images) - "Sondes spatiales" (120 pictures) - "Lunar Astronautical Charts" et "Lunar Maps" (810 pictures). Astrod Astronomy Freeware MoonPhase - MoonPhase - Moonphase displays the current moon phase of current day as an icon in the Activity field. You can change time zone, latitude and longitude (you can also click on the map!) to get a more accurate moon distance, moon rise, moon transit and moon set times and also the sun rise, sun transit and sun set. A little bonus: If you like to fish, mark the 'Show good fish days' option (fishing calendar, derived from 'the anglers Almanac'). Astrod Astronomy Freeware Astronomy software from Astrod |
